Fiberglass Gluing in Roofing Plants
Very often the hot melt applicators/guns used to apply high temperature polyamides for splices in roofing plants are completely insufficient.
They offer minimal melt rate in the heated pressure tube. They offer minimal output rates as they are only pressurized with air to a maximum of 60 psi. The temperatures are set too high to compensate for their limited melt capacity and they degrade the adhesive.
This affects the bond strength of the adhesive. This type of applicator is also breaking down constantly. Finally, it requires regular filling - exposing operators to high temperature adhesive.

Hot Melt Drum Unloaders- Why use this equipment?
Hot Melt Drum Unloaders- Why use this equipment?
The use of a drum unloader can offer the following benefits:
1. Reduces the operator handling of the adhesive -For 100 lb per hour consumption operators will spend a total of 10 minutes every five hours removing and inserting a drum versus 5 minutes every hour for the manual filling of 100 lbs from four 25lb. boxes or 2 50 lb. boxes.
2. Reduces operator liability -Potential contact with molten adhesive will be minimized
3. Reduces fuming of adhesive -This improves the plant air quality.
4. Cleaner manufacturing plant -Residuals from adhesive fuming do not build up on all surfaces.

Why does hot melt fail to bond corrugated?
Why does hot melt fail to bond corrugated?
There are many reasons why hot melt fails to bond corrugated paper substrates together.
Some of the reasons are as follow:
- In case erecting and sealing improper compression and substantial memory in the board can be the problem.
- During the winter months the temperature of the corrugated may be low enough to set the adhesive too fast.
- Very often the hot melt is the wrong product with the incorrect open time, set time and chemical makeup.
- The use of recycled paperboard can also present a challenge to the bonding process with hot melt adhesives.

Hot Melt Module Internal Seal Wear
Hot Melt Gun Modules are the valves used to cycle hot melt through nozzles onto substrates. The modules are the considered the “wear parts” in a hot melt system. Actually, the wear part is an internal O-ring or seal that contacts the needle valve and separates the hot melt chamber from the pneumatic air chamber that lifts the needle valve.
Most hot melt modules are pneumatically actuated - requiring the separation of the internal air chamber and high pressure fluid chambers in the valve with an O-ring or seal. This seal, which separates these areas within the module, will wear over time - allowing adhesive to flow into the air chamber and the eventual failure of the module.
